Wacky Friday

When I was kid, the hot collectables were baseball and football cards, and Wacky Packs. The Topps company started producing these product parodies in 1967 and has continued intermittently to the present day. While going through some old papers, I happened to find some of the stickers I’d collected. At the time I didn’t give a thought to collectability, and so pasted them to paper. Thanks to the miracle of modern electronics and software, I’ve been able to ‘unpeel’ them. I’ve included a selection in todays post. You can read what the New York Times had to say about them here.

These are from the 1973 – 1976 run.

Today in History

1861 – US levies its 1st Income Tax (3% of incomes over $800)

That’s a little over $19,000 today.

1914 – 1st traffic light installed (Euclid Ave & E 105th St, Cleveland)

First red light run – same day.

1927 – Phillies Cy Williams hits for cycle in just 4 at bats

At the time, the luckiest man on the face of the Earth.
